Vie-Long Horse Hair shaving brush, carefully handmade with natural brown horse hair. The hair used for this brush is never bleached and comes from the all-natural mane hair (35%) and tail hair (65%) of horses in Spain. The hair is taken only while the animals are being groomed. No horse is ever harmed from the hair retrieval process and Vie-Long is proud of their ethical processes. Vie-Long started making horse hair shaving brushes in 1940, nowadays grandson's founder continues making horse shaving brushes using the same traditional methods.

This brush boasts an excellent combination of firm hair and soft tips thanks to a dedicated process that Vie-Long applies to the tips, it also has a really good backbone and flow through making it a perfect brush for hard soaps. Horse hair allows very good water retention.

Horse hair brushes have become many wet shavers weapon of choice ... truly great brushes, they are said to have 80% of the good attributes of badger brushes and 80% of the good attributes of boar brushes. Horse hair is also perfect for those who cannot use a badger brush for either religious or ethical reasons.

TIP: Horse hair brushes do smell the first few times they get wet. You may want to wash it thoroughly with a pet shampoo, rinse well with warm water, and allow to dry before its first use.

When possible try to hang your brush for drying. This will help to maintain the condition of your brush, as it stops water from gathering in the handle which can lead to damage like rotting and bristles falling out.
