The Henson AL13 puts an end to shaving irritation and cuts, while also making your skin feel comfortable and smooth. Henson created this razor to give you a whole new shaving experience, unlike any other safety razor.

The MEDIUM version of the AL13 has slightly more blade exposure and a wider blade gap than the Mild AL13. This allows it to handle thicker and longer hair. That said, it is still considered a gentle and more comfortable shaver compared to other safety razors.

We think it's best for :

  • Normal Skin to Slightly Sensitive Skin
  • Any type of Beard (finer to thicker hairs)
  • Provides an efficient shave that is smooth and comfortable
  • Very forgiving razor (meaning, little mishaps might not end up in a nick)

  • The Medium AL13 is a great choice in most cases, perfect to replace a multi-blade cartridge razor
  • For very coarse beards or shaving once a week, the Aggressive version might be a better option if you're after a very close shave

  • All Henson safety razors are compatible with any standard double-edge (DE) razor blade
Our suggestion is a medium to sharp blade like Astra SP, Gillette Nacet, Gillette Platinum, Kai, Dovo, Feather, ...

Designed and manufactured with extreme precision in mind. Henson has applied aerospace processes to achieve remarkable low tolerances on critical dimensions through the machining and anodizing process.

The blade support creates the most accurate blade exposure on the market, which means you can be ensured that each razor holds the blade at the correct angle and gap to give you the perfect shave.

Manufactured in the same facility that produces components for the Mars Rover and the International Space Station, this razor is durable and should last for many years of worry-free shaves.

What this means for you is a noticeably better shave that just feels different. It truly is one of a kind.

  • Latest Version with softened edges and added bevels
  • Lightweight - easy to control
  • No clogging - wide open channels let lather & hairs rinse off easily
  • Build in Angle - perfect for finding the 30-degree angle
  • Precision machined - safe shave and the most accurate blade exposure

About Henson: A Function First Approach To Shaving. These days, it feels like many product design choices (especially around shaving) are made from a profit-first position. However, at Henson, every aspect of our design was chosen because we felt it was the best for the function of shaving. Not for profit. We then leveraged our 20+ years of aerospace machining experience to make it.

Another great razor from Henson

I primarily head shave and just the neckline of my beard. And used a Parker and a feather de for years, obviously care and attention are needed with a DE but the shave is better than even a top end disposable. I switched to the original Henson a few years back ( medium ) and immediately found it easier than my other DE and have never nicked myself with this brand. The mark 2 is a definite improvement, the rounded edges on the head stop any accidental scratches behind the ears and it just feels and looks better, The original also used to drag a bit , this one e does not. Possibly something to do with the newly designed gap and long soap Channel as apposed to 2 slots on the underside of the older head, This is also a mild but seems to cut closer but still no nicks, Great introduction to the benefits of DE shaving and great for the less careful of us or head shavers. The optional stand is great too

This product I would recommend to any man and Woman who wants a close shave without problems. Its closer then any plastic disposables. You get about two to three shaves out of one blade. I am hooked !

Henson AL13 Safety Razor with medium blade exposure

A light razor with unique head design that ensures the blade is locked into position and remains so. It was very comfortable to use and I achieved a close shave whilst using Wilkinson Sword blades.

Henson AL13 Razor

I have been very impressed using the Henson over the last couple of weeks. It gives a smooth finish without the razor burn that the old fashion safety razors were known for. I've decided to give a Henson to my sons as birthday gifts.

To increase how much hair it removes, turn the head slightly to expose more of the blade.

It's a good safety razor, especially if it's your first time trying one after using cartridges for years. It's not an official feature, but many people have success with adjusting how aggressive it is simply by loosening the head slightly, a quarter or half turn make it more aggressive. Then as a final pass you can tighten it completely and shave against or across the grain after re-lathering.

I recommend this product, once you learn it the quality of shave is good. What makes this better than many of the other safety razors is how forgiving it is during this learning period, it's set at the correct shaving angle so you don't have to be mindful of that.
You don;t need to press it into your face, just enough pressure so the blade cuts the hairs. I suspect that pressing too hard and having the blade scrape the skin will blunt the blades more quickly, the blade just needs to cut the hair. As long as the blade is positioned at the base of the hair that should be enough, no need to mash it into your face. Holding the skin taught while you do this can help it cut cleanly,

Back to safety

I've used safety razors more than 20 years ago. A month ago I saw an article about safety razors and bought a Henson AL13 to try. It's a completely different experience. I'm very happy with the results. It is really easy to use, and the result is much better than using any other product (Gillete, Shick etc).

Fantastic Product

My experience with old school razors:
Merkur Futur - Nicknamed the potato peeler. Really bad, sold it on Trademe.
Muhle R41 Grande - Not bad, but not really great compared to a cartridge razor. Requires lots of faffing around and I still had missed bits. Significantly better than the potato peeler.
Henson AL13 Medium - All the hype is true. It gives a better shave than a cartridge razor with no razor burn or nicks. I would recommend the medium. I am hardly a yeti and the medium is perfect. I haven't tried the mild but I could imagine that it could be too mild. At 37 gms I thought it might be too light but it is absolutely fine. No worries with the dreaded under the nose bit either.
