Mühle R89 Twist Safety Razor

This was my first safety razor purchase. I’ve been wet shaving with a Mach 3 Cartridge razor for the past 30 years but have been researching how to make the move to safety razors.

A lot of research and too many (seriously) YouTube videos led me to the R89 Twist. I don’t have any other safety razor experience to compare it with but I really like this razor. It’s just slightly shorter than my Mach 3 and significantly heavier.

It’s easy to load razors and now that I’ve started to get the hang of the angles I’m getting great smooth shaves - am still getting the odd nick but that’s me learning the technique rather than the razor.

Overall I’m super happy.

This razor provides a very close shave. Its so sharp that my skin is still getting used to shaving with it.

Beasty razor. Excellent quality. Good grip on the big handle even with wet fingers. Maybe a little awkward when replacing blades if you are not used to this system but not harder-just different. The blade that it came with was good. Next blade (Merkur) is not as good as it doesn't like me using a pre shave, so I'm guessing this razor will have it's preferred types of blades. Highly recommend. N.B. I had a small complaint on one of the other products (which was not the fault of FineShave). They resolved it very promptly the same day. What a pleasant surprise.

This is my first Safety Razor, was worried making the switch from cartridge but this gives a good close shave without being too aggressive, definitely recommend this for people making the shift

After doing some research I decided to take the plunge and get into the old style of wetshaving. I was worried there would be a learning curve with the angle of the razor and what not but it is very intuitive and shaves so much better than a cartridge razor. The larger handle and weight is worth every penny in my opinion because now it fits perfectly in my whole hand and the extra weight gives me the feeling of more control. I would say it is very beginner friendly and you can of course choose your level of shave with a variety of blade options. I personally got one of the sample packs and can't wait to start trying them all out. If you are debating whether to get this or the smaller handled model, I would go for this if your budget allows. Lastly, get yourself a nice brush to lather in luxury :)

I was a bit nervous about making the switch to a safety razor. To be frank even after using it once I'm still a bit nervous, but I'm certain that will change the more I use it.

Probably like many, I was a bit nervous using a safety razor. This is my new to safety razor opinion.

The weight feels great. There is enough weight to give you clear feedback on the position of the razor without being heavy. The razor has a nice balance so moves in a nice and predictable manner. Grip is nice. I've finished my 5th shave and all is good.

Easy to change the blade. Nothing concerning about the quality of build or alignment.

Easy to clean and keep nice.

End result feels even and nice. Technique was quick and easy to learn.

The handle length might be a nicer if it was a bit longer again? Uneducated guess that's not based on experience.

I am harsh reviewer and so where most people would give 5 star, I give 4 because there is always room for improvement. I would recommend this razor even for a novice.

I'm totally happy with the Muhle razor. Its really good for close shave and cuts well. I switched from high rage electric razors to safety Razor once I done my research.
